A 41-year-old San Diego man who had been scuba diving near the Coronado Islands apparently drowned, authorities said. The victim, Donald Robert Matheny, was declared dead at Chula Vista Community Hospital, a spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office said. Max Murphy, a coroner’s deputy, said drowning was the suspected cause of death, but the precise cause would be determined after additional tests.
