BOOK-OF-MONTH CLUB HONORS 3

NEW YORK —  The Book-of-the-Month Club recently presented awards to three U.S. authors for “their distinguished contribution to American letters.”

Robert A. Caro, Toni Morrison and Lewis Thomas received the honors. The club announced three grants of $10,000 each, one in the name of each author, to “Give the Gift of Literacy,” an organization supported by publishers and book sellers to promote literacy on a national level.

The citations praised Caro for the vigor of his scholarship, Morrison for the richness of her language, and Thomas for the grace and wisdom of his writing.
