MUTED MELANCHOLY

“POSITIVELY DUMPTRUCK.” Dumptruck. Big Time Records. The silly name this Boston band has taken hardly prepares you for the richly melodic sound of its music. Reminiscent of Led Zeppelin in its morbid folk mode, Dumptruck conjures a mood of muted melancholy that was once the turf of ‘60s groups Buffalo Springfield and Love. The sense of extreme dislocation that sets in immediately after a long-cherished dream goes up in smoke is the central theme on this, their second LP. Unfortunately for Dumptruck, the audience that would probably love its music is under the sway of R.E.M.
