Prono Slips to Seventh in NCAA Golf

Flori Prono of USC slipped to seventh place Friday with a 76 in the NCAA women’s golf championship. The golfer, who lives in Northridge, shot a 3-under-par 70 on Thursday to tie for the day’s best score.

Florida’s Page Dunlap extended her lead in the medalist race to three strokes with a third-round 72, helping the Gators move into first place.

Dunlap, a junior, was 1 under par over the 6,100-yard Ohio State University Scarlet course.

Defending champion Florida, which shared the second-round lead with Miami of Florida, opened up a five-stroke lead over the Hurricanes going into today’s final round in the 72-hole event.

The Gators shot a 3-over 295 for a 54-hole total of 885, nine strokes over par. The Hurricanes shot 300 for a total of 890. USC held on to third place with a 307 for a 903 total.

Dunlap, who had a 215 total after three rounds, said her primary objective his helping the Gators defend their championship.

“That’s what I’m thinking about,†Dunlap said. “I’ll worry about the golf course and my situation.â€

Dunlap holds a three-stroke edge over Southern Methodist’s Martha Foyer in the race for medalist honors. Foyer shot an even-par 73 for a 54-hole total of 218, 1-under-par.

“I really like the position I’m in,†Foyer said. “Saturday I need to shoot the lights out.â€
