Rio Mesa, Saugus Play in 3-A, 2-A Title Games
Rio Mesa High will make its fifth appearance in a Southern Section baseball championship game in the past seven seasons when it meets Western of Anaheim for the 3-A division title today at 4:30 p.m. at Dodger Stadium.
Scott Bush (11-0) will start for Rio Mesa (24-4), which won the 3-A championship in 1985.
Sean Luft, a senior first baseman, is Rio Mesa’s top hitter with a .421 batting average and eight home runs. Luft is 9 for 15 with two homers, three triples and 13 runs batted in during the playoffs. Rio Mesa has outscored its three playoff opponents, 37-3.
