San Diego Mesa Plays Saturday in Long Beach
San Diego Mesa College is making its first appearance in the California community college baseball championship tournament this weekend in Long Beach.
The Olympians (33-6), who won the Pacific Coast Conference title, have won nine games in a row and advanced through the regionals last weekend with a two-game sweep of South Coast Conference champion Orange Coast College.
Seeded eighth, San Diego Mesa plays Golden Gate Conference champion and No. 1 San Mateo at 10 a.m. today at Blair Field.
In other opening-round games, No. 2 College of the Canyons (35-5) plays No. 7 Butte (31-7) at 2 p.m. at Blair Field; No. 3 Sacramento City (27-8-1) plays No. 6 Long Beach City (23-12) at 7 p.m. at Blair; and No. 4 Rancho Santiago (31-8) plays No. 5 Merced (23-12) at Cal State Long Beach at 10 a.m.
The double-elimination tournament continues through the weekend with the championship game Monday.
