Brazil is seeking names in a N.Y. bank probe.
A spokesman for the Brazilian central bank said it plans to ask Morgan Guaranty Trust which customers are affected by the New York bank’s investigation of a former Morgan Guaranty official. The news follows the announcement Wednesday in New York that the U.S. attorney is investigating if criminal charges should be filed against Antonio Gebauer, a former bank employee suspected of misappropriating $6 million from the accounts of Brazilian customers. A spokesman for the Brazilian central bank said it wants the names “to be sure these Brazilians weren’t evading taxes or breaking Brazil’s foreign exchange laws.â€
