The Region : Measure Would Outlaw Bias by Clubs
- Share via
An ordinance that would outlaw arbitrary admission standards for bars, discos and nightclubs was ordered drafted by the Los Angeles City Council. Council President Pat Russell proposed the ordinance, saying that some clubs appear to be selectively insisting on dress codes and demanding multiple identifications to discriminate against ethnic minorities and women. She cited a lawsuit settlement last year by Chippendale’s of West Los Angeles with a group of black UCLA law students who claimed that the club enforced a quota on the number of blacks it would admit. The proposed ordinance was referred to a council committee.
