Downey : Lottery Funds for Raises
The Downey Unified School District last week approved raises for classified employees and maintenance workers from its expected share of California Lottery funds over the coming school year.
Classified workers, which include secretaries and clerks, and employees represented by Local 99 of the Los Angeles City and County School Employees Union, such as custodians and gardeners, will receive a 4.32% cost-of-living raise effective June 1, 1986.
The district allocated 55% of its total lottery funds for salary increases for all employees, said Peter Lippman, business manager.
On Monday, the board will vote on how to spend the remaining 45% of the funds, he said. Recommended expenditures include $245,700 for classroom and office furniture, $188,900 for audio-visual equipment and projectors, and $156,900 for vehicles, trucks and a small tractor.
