Tustin : Marine Sentenced to 20 Years in Murder of Wife
A Marine Corps sergeant has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his estranged wife at an n apartment complex last summer.
A Superior Court jury had deliberated four days before convicting Horace Tanniehill, 26, of second-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
Frances Tanniehill, who was a corporal in the Marines, died shortly after she was shot several times in the chest during an argument last July. Her husband was found across the street from the apartment with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the abdomen.
The couple, originally from Dallas, were assigned to El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in December, 1984, and had separated two months before the shooting.
She had custody of their 13-month-old son and had obtained a restraining order to keep Tanniehill from harassing them.
