Sri Lanka Tightens Security on Airliners
COLOMBO, Sri Lanka — Air Lanka said Monday that it is implementing tight security measures because of the bomb blast on one of its planes at Colombo airport last week, in which 21 people were killed and more than 40 injured.
In the future, a spokesman said, cargo will be kept for a minimum of 22 hours before loading onto airliners. He declined to disclose the other steps.
The Sri Lankan government has blamed Tamil separatists for the bombing. But so far no one has claimed responsibility for the blast, and the largest guerrilla group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, has denied involvement.
