Roland Hemond, former Chicago White Sox general manager, has resigned from the club’s front office to become a special projects consultant to Baseball Commissioner Peter Ueberroth.
Hemond, replaced as Chicago’s general manager by Ken Harrelson last October, will join the commissioner’s office May 16. Hemond was named baseball’s Executive of the Year when Chicago won the American League Western Division title in 1983.
