Disc Jockey Garcia Cortez Slain
A man who was stabbed to death and stuffed in a trash container in the Rampart area was identified today as Rodolfo Garcia Cortez, a disc jockey for Spanish-language radio station KWKW. Gustavo Garcia, a roommate and cousin of Garcia Cortez who has been missing since the disc jockey’s disappearance, was being sought by police for questioning, said Detective Charles Salazar. The disc jockey’s 1979 silver Porsche was also missing, Salazar said.
The body of Garcia, 42, was found early Monday near his apartment and listed as a “John Doe” until a station employee identified him at the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office. Garcia had gained popularity on his 10 a.m.-2 p.m. radio show through his imitation of numerous Latino dialects.
