Surplus Catch of Fish Dumped Off Louisiana

NEW ORLEANS — State officials on Tuesday investigated reports of perhaps 50 tons of dead redfish floating in an eight-mile stretch of Breton Sound off southeast Louisiana. They said the fish had been dumped by an out-of-state fishing fleet that had netted more than it could carry.
Gerald Adkins, supervisor of the Wildlife and Fisheries Department’s finfish section, said Monday that his office had received reports of a fish kill at the Chandeleur Island chain.
