College Baseball : Titans Can’t Cool Off No. 1 Loyola, 10-6
No. 1-ranked Loyola Marymount scored seven runs on only two hits in the fifth inning to rally from a 5-1 deficit and defeat Cal State Fullerton, 10-6, in a nonconference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at Loyola.
Loyola Marymount (37-7) sent 13 men to the plate in the fifth and used two hits, three walks, three errors and a hit batter to score seven times against Fullerton starter and loser Jim Halley (5-5) and reliever Gary Buckels. The win was the seventh straight and 20th in the last 27 games for the Lions, who took over the No. 1 ranking Monday.
Loyola junior left-hander Eric Reinholtz (5-0), the younger brother of former Fullerton pitcher Jack Reinholtz, pitched 5 innings of relief to earn the victory.
John Eccles tied a school record with his 25th double of the season for the Titans (29-17).
UC Riverside 10, Chapman 3--Mark Hardy had a solo homer and a two-run double to lead the Highlanders to a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. victory over the Panthers (15-26, 7-12) at Riverside.
Southern California College 6, Pt. Loma 2--Randy Frazier, Steve Overeem and Jim McCahill each had two hits as SCC (10-5, 28-13) won a NAIA District 3 game at Pt. Loma.

Cypress 11, Cerritos 8--Trevor Hoffman’s grand slam in the first and Mark Mohler’s three-run homer in the eighth helped the Chargers (10-7, 23-10) to a Southern California Conference victory over the Falcons (8-9) at Cypress. Jim Osborn hit two solo homers for Cerritos.
Mt. San Antonio 7, Fullerton 4--Jamie Davenport went 3 for 3 with two solo home runs to back the seven-hit pitching of Dan Deville (3-3) as the Mounties (6-11, 10-16) beat the Hornets (9-8, 15-16) in a South Coast Conference game at Fullerton.
Rancho Santiago 19, Golden West 2--The Dons sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings in a South Coast Conference victory at Golden West. Rueben Gonzalez went 5 for 5 with three doubles and two RBIs for the Dons (12-5, 22-7). Keith Kaub had a solo homer for the Rustlers (9-8, 15-12).
Saddleback 7, Compton 6--Bucky Bolinger and Eric Gasner hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth to break a 5-5 tie and give the Gauchos (6-10, 14-14) a South Coast Confernce victory at home.
