Anaheim / Santa Ana : 2 Cities Still in Running for Olympic Festivals
Anaheim and Santa Ana are the only two Orange County cities being considered as sites for national Olympic Festivals in the three years preceding the 1992 Olympics, officials said Tuesday.
Neither city, however, has decided yet whether to pursue its initial interest.
“It would be fantastic if we could work things out, but we realize that there are important and incredibly difficult logistical considerations,” Santa Ana Mayor Dan Griset, who was out of town Tuesday, said in a prepared statement.
City spokeswomen in Anaheim also said city officials have yet to decide whether to accept such a role if it is granted.
Anaheim and Santa Ana were among 66 cities selected across the nation from more than 100 that sent out inquiries about hosting the festival in 1989, 1990 or 1991, said MarlaHendrickson,Santa Ana executive assistant to the mayor and council.
This year, the festival will be held in Houston from July 25 to Aug. 3.
