Trouble on Home Front

Patti Davis’ novel, “Home Front,” is exactly that: a novel. And a courageous one too, because it describes a growing belief that U.S. policy in Vietnam was misguided. “Home Front” is an effort by Davis to re-create the devastating effects the policy had on our young men and women. That Davis happens to be the daughter of a President who supports the policy is coincidental to the story but brings an added dimension to the issue. Jean Vallely, your reviewer, doesn’t seem to have noticed that the message in the novel concerns the morality of the war. I feel quite confident that Vallely would not have been so eager to trash a first novel the way she did had Davis not been who she is.
