President Alan Garcia said his government will make its first payment on its debt to the International Monetary Fund, meeting a deadline given by the fund. Garcia was quoted by the official Peruvian news agency Andina as saying that his center-left government will pay $30 million to the fund, which had given Garcia until Monday to make a payment toward its $700-million debt or face being declared ineligible to receive fresh credit from the international agency.
