A 35-year-old man found dead in his Long Beach apartment after the wounding of a plainclothes sheriff’s deputy and a siege by SWAT officers took his own life, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office ruled Friday.
An autopsy showed that Victor Arthur Greiving died of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, said coroner’s spokesman William Gold.
The Wednesday evening episode began when one of two deputies attempting to serve a misdemeanor warrant at the apartment in the 1500 block of East 2nd Street was wounded in the back by a shotgun blast. Officers surrounded the building and finally rushed the apartment after firing tear gas. They found Greiving’s body.
