The Nevada Athletic Commission called for a hearing to determine whether former heavyweight boxing champion Leon Spinks used the drug phenobarbital, a depressant, during his title fight against Dwight Muhammad Qawi at Reno on March 22.
The commission also voted to admonish Qawi, the World Boxing Assn. cruiserweight champion, for using the aspirin-like drug salicylate. Qawi stopped Spinks in the sixth round of their scheduled 15-round bout.
