SPRING SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Ayrault’s Homer Leads Moorpark to Its Sixth Straight Victory, 8-6

Moorpark College’s Bob Ayrault continued his hot hitting Thursday as the Raiders won their sixth game in a row, an 8-6 victory over Oxnard College in a Western State Conference game at Oxnard.

Ayrault, who is batting .371 with 27 runs batted in for the season, was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs and hit his fifth home run of the year Thursday.

Moorpark’s Jon Egertson was 3 for 4 with two runs scored. John Gleason (2-1) earned the win in relief of starter Tim Nelson.

Moorpark (14-9, 7-3) is in second place in the WSC at 7-3, one game behind Taft.

Other JC baseball scores: Mission 16, Antelope Valley 6--Third baseman John Chung (1 for 6) hit a three-run homer in the seventh after teammates James Coley (2 for 3) and Pat Rocco (1 for 2) had two-run shots earlier in the game. . . . Valley 13, West L.A. 4--Valley left fielder Dave Serpa pounded out a pair of doubles to drive in four runs. Teammates Ron Dale (3 for 6), Sal Villasenor (2 for 3), Mark Gieske (2 for 4) and Dan Silvera (2 for 4) combined to drive in eight runs.

High school baseball Scores: Grant 6, Sylmar 3--Rodney Beck’s two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 3-3 tie to fuel the Lancers’ victory at Grant. . . . Reseda 6, Cleveland 5--Reseda’s Vince Coronodo was 2 for 2 with an RBI to back pitcher Donnie Grant’s complete game. . . . Chatsworth 9, Taft 3--Dave Maine was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs, and Robert Roseboro was 2 for 4 as the Chancellors (4-0) remained undefeated in the West Valley League. . . . Monroe 7, Van Nuys 2--Van Nuys committed seven errors and managed just four hits to stay winless in the Mid-Valley League. . . . El Camino Real 13, Canoga Park 9--Canoga Park allowed 10 unearned runs as the team’s defense made seven errors at Canoga Park. Mike Urman had a double, a home run and three RBIs, and Scott Strickland was 4 for 5 and an RBI for Canoga Park. . . . Bishop Diego 8, Oak Park 5--Jason Ornstein was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI, and teammate Darrin Lloyd added two hits for Oak Park, but four errors allowed Bishop Diego to win. . . .Simi Lutheran 14, Ribet Christian 13--Simi Lutheran won the slugfest, but might have lost pitching ace Jonathan Doering for a while. Doering, after experiencing soreness in his arm, moved from the mound to second base after the first inning. In the fourth, Doering pulled his hamstring chasing a pop fly down the left field line. The extent of the injury is unknown.

Softball

Pierce 4, Moorpark 0; Moorpark 1, Pierce 0--Pierce College pitcher Julie Darnell helped win one, then lose one, as her team and Moorpark split a nonleague doubleheader.

Pierce won the first game as Darnell allowed only four hits, striking out 10. In the second game, she allowed no hits, but walked four straight batters with two outs in the second inning to bring in the game’s only run and give Moorpark a 1-0 win.

Alice Suppan led Pierce offensively in the first game, going 2 for 3 with a three-run home run in the second inning. It was the only extra-base hit of the game.

Valley pitcher Drew Ricker had a one-hitter through the fifth inning, but had allowed eight hits by game’s end. Ricker is 6-3, while the Monarchs are 16-8 overall and 6-3 in conference.

High school softball scores: El Camino Real 6, Westchester 0--Pitcher Beth Silverman won her fifth game in as many starts for El Camino, spreading out five hits and striking out six. . . . Rio Hondo 7, Flintridge Prep 3--Denise Obrero led Flintridge Prep, going 2 for 3 from the plate and scoring a run. . . . Royal 4, Westlake 2--Debra Rabin drove in Trina Flores and Kim Glavey with a single in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie. Canoga Park 3, Chatsworth 0--With 10 strikeouts, pitcher De Dow recorded her fourth no-hitter of the season for Canoga Park. Dow has 110 strike outs in 51 innings pitched this season . . . Canyon 2, Saugus 0--A fourth inning single by pitcher Toni Gutierrez brought home Julie Taitch and Wendy Hawthorne for the only two runs. . . . L.A. Lutheran 1, Village Christian 0--April Otte scored on an error in the first inning for the only run. Both pitchers, Mickey Lehmkuhl of L.A. Lutheran and Michelle Vail of Village Christian, allowed only one hit each in the game at Hansen Dam Park. . . . L.A. Baptist 16, Western Christian 1--L.A. Baptist got seven runs in the sixth inning. L.A. Baptist pitcher Michelle Ruffner (5-0 in league) pitched the entire game, allowing only four hits and getting four strike outs. . . . Burroughs (B) 23, Alhambra 3--Burroughs batters lashed out 25 hits in the Foothill League game to take the easy win in Moor Field at Alhambra High. Tonya Staab was 4 for 6 with three runs scored and four RBIs to lead Burroughs. Teammate Barbara Hofer was 4 for 6, while teammates Jacqie DeLange, Kim Powers and Kristi Davis went 3 for 5. . . . Viewpoint 13, Windward 1--Pitcher Kim Fields tossed a one-hitter and hit a home run, triple and double to lead Viewpoint to the nonleague win. . . . St. Bonaventure 3, Moorpark 0--Crystal Babcock got the only hit for Moorpark. St. Bonaventure pitcher Debbie Krall helped herself, hitting a two-run double in the sixth inning to ice the game. . . . Burbank 1, Hart 0--Kerry Parsons (2 for 4) hit a two-out single in the eighth inning and was brought home on a hit by Leslie Plank in the eighth inning to get the win for Burbank.

High School Track

Cathedral 66, Bell-Jeff 59--Mike Depard, after winning the 120 high hurdles, was leading the 330 intermediate hurdles when he stumbled and fell on the last obstacle. The fall made the difference in the meet and Bell-Jeff dropped to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Santa Fe League. Ernest Romero won the 100-meter dash in 11.8 and the 200-meter dash in 23.8 to lead Bell-Jeff. Teammate Richard McNorton won the high jump (5-8) and the triple jump (39-8).

Other high school track results: Saugus 69, Palmdale 67--Rodney Bradshaw won the 300 intermediate and the 110 high hurdles as the Centurions slipped by Palmdale by winning the mile relay, which was the last race of the day. . . . Calabasas 71, Santa Clara 48--Cory Marschalk and Peter Williamson were double winners in the meet at Calabasas. . . . Notre Dame 87, St. Francis 34--C.J. Fisher won four events for Notre Dame. . . . Chaminade 73, Pater Noster 34--Randy Scheiber won the 330-meter low hurdles in 43.87 and the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.59 to lead Chaminade.

Girls high school track results: Palmdale 75, Saugus 52--For Saugus, Heather Scobie, Amy Reiter and Garnetta Brown captured two events each. . . . Calabasas 60, Santa Clara 30--Andrea Dellamonica took the 440 yard run (1:00.4) and the mile (6:02) as the Coyotes beat the Saints. . . . Western Christian 74, LaVerne Lutheran 43--Alicia Hairston won the long jump with a leap of 16-9, and won three other events for the victorious Lancers. . . . Notre Dame 112, L.A. Westlake 5--The Knights’ Jenny Fitzgerald led the rout at Notre Dame by winning the 100, 220 and running a leg in the 440 relay. . . . Bell-Jeff 70, Cathedral 48--Chris Morgan, Patti Cutler and Doreen Flynn each won two events to lead Bell-Jeff, which is unbeaten at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Santa Fe League.

JC Tennis

Pierce College 6, Harbor College 3--After losing their first match of the season, the Brahmas have won 14 straight. Nelson Gary and Steve Yu, who are the team’s No. 1 and 2 players, respectively, had three-set wins against the Seahawks.

High School Volleyball

Harvard def. Inglewood, 15-5, 15-10, 15-11--Outside hitter John Phelps had 24 kills and Peter Andersons had six blocks to lead Harvard. Harvard, which leads the Ocean League at 8-1, is 9-1 overall.
