Focus on Architecture : Four Homes on Museum’s 24th Art Tour

The diversity of style in California homes and offices will be highlighted in the 24th Art and Architecture Tour, which will be conducted April 27 by the Art Museum Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Proceeds of the tour, which will feature four Westside homes and the Executive Life Building in West Los Angeles, will benefit the council’s museum acquisitions fund.

The tour, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., will include:

- The 5-year-old Johannes Van Tilburg house in West Los Angeles, which was built on an old estate and uses the former estate gates, an old brick wall and elements of the estate landscape. The owners’ contemporary art collection includes California artists Michael Gustavson and Gerry Levine.

- The Arroyo House of Karen Simonson and Barton Phelps, which was designed by Phelps and which won an American Institute of Architects award for creative use of a difficult hillside property in Beverly Hills.

- The Beverly Hills home of Lisa Specht and Ron Rogers, which is built into a sloping hillside and includes Mediterranean architecture, a cantilevered pool and patio and interior design by Waldo. Rogers designed the landscaping. The art collection includes Chuck Arnoldi, Gifford Myers, Laddie John Dill and Pat Schwartz.

- The Brentwood home of Mandy and Cliff Einstein, which was redesigned two years ago to create a gallery for the Enstein’s art collection, which includes Ed Moses, William deKooning, Mel Kendrick, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Tony Berlant, Marlo Bartels and Mark Lere.

- Executive Life, which will open its corporate floor housing the company’s art collection, which includesh Southern California artists as Robert Walker, Sheila Elias, Hampton Hall, Ruth Snyder, Hoon Kwak and Kay Omata.

Tickets cost $50. Children under 12 will not be admitted. Reservations can be made by sending a check payable to the Art Museum Council along with information on the number of tickets needed, name, address and telephone number to Art and Architecture Tour, care of 676 Elkins Road, Los Angeles 90049.
