College Tennis : UCI Beats Santa Barbara
UC Irvine needed a victory in the No. 3 doubles match to beat UC Santa Barbara, 5-4, Sunday in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. tennis match at Park Newport Tennis Club.
The Anteaters, ranked 19th in the country, won the key doubles match with Ken Derr and Art Hernandez defeating Curt Hull and Craig Ellison, 6-4, 6-4.
UCI (4-1 in the PCAA, 14-8 overall) led 4-2 after singles play, with victories by Darren Yates, Mark Kaplan, Mike Downs and Derr.
UCI’s No. 1 singles player, Bruce Man Son Hing, was upset by Kip Brady, 6-1, 6-2, to suffer his worst loss of the season.
The Anteaters travel to USC Wednesday for a 1 p.m. match.
