Merton Earns Invitation to Sports Festival
Heather Merton, 15, of Swim San Diego earned an invitation to this summer’s National Sports Festival with her performance in the 100-yard freestyle Saturday at the Junior National Championships in Grand Forks, N.D.
Merton, a freshman at Mt. Carmel High School, was sixth in the event with a time of 52.56 seconds.
Merton finished seventh in the 400-yard individual medley and 13th in the 50-yard freestyle. In addition, she was a member of Swim San Diego’s 800-yard relay team which placed eighth.
