A Rosemead City Council candidate has been arrested on suspicion of rape and other crimes, sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.
Gil Gonzales, 43, the only candidate challenging Rosemead’s two incumbent councilmen in Tuesday’s municipal election, was also booked on suspicion of oral copulation, false imprisonment, possession of cocaine and receiving stolen property, Lt. Herb S. James said.
Gonzales, who was arrested Wednesday, was jailed in lieu of $75,000 bail.
A woman in her late 30s was allegedly raped at Gonzales’ auto repair shop last weekend, James said.
