Hughes Names Wheelon to Operations Post
Albert Wheelon has been named executive vice president-operations for Hughes Aircraft, a new position in which he will assume responsibility for operations in the company’s major groups: electro-optical and data systems, industrial electronics, ground systems, missile systems, radar systems and space and communications. He will also oversee the Santa Barbara Research Center, support systems and corporate product operations.
The appointment “will improve the cohesiveness among our highly diverse organizations that frequently rely on common technologies and disciplines,” Chairman Allen E. Puckett said in a statement.
Wheelon, who joined Hughes in 1966, was also named a director and member of Hughes’ executive committee. He will report to Donald H. White, president and chief operating officer.
