Navy Force Heads for Liberty

WASHINGTON — The Navy battle group that challenged Libya’s claims to the Gulf of Sidra last week began dispersing to ports in Spain, Italy and France for liberty today, Pentagon officials said.
The three 6th Fleet aircraft carriers and supporting warships had been anchored at sea off the coast of Sicily since late last Friday, a day after completing maneuvers in the gulf. The officials said the movement of the ships had nothing to do with today’s fatal explosion of a TWA airliner over Greece.
