Garden Grove : Note Left by Man Who Killed Boss in Office

A note was found in the clothing of a man who shot his boss to death in a state employment office and then killed himself, police said Tuesday.

“Investigators are analyzing the contents of the note but we cannot release them now,” said Anne Garbeff, a spokeswoman for the California State Police.

Garbeff said results of the investigation into the death of Louis H. Zuniga, 50, a manager of the state Employment Development Department office, are expected to be released today.

Zuniga was shot to death early Monday morning by Fidel Gonzalez Jr., a disgruntled employee, who then turned the gun on himself.

Gonzalez reportedly was upset with Zuniga and wanted a transfer, according to co-workers.

Garbeff said the gun was a .38-caliber, five-shot pistol that Gonzalez had purchased in January. The gun was registered in Gonzalez’s name, she said.

The employment office, which was closed Monday and Tuesday while police examined the scene, is expected to reopen today, said Valerie Reynoso, an employment department spokeswoman.

Reynoso said the office’s workload is being absorbed at other Orange County offices in Anaheim, Fullerton and Santa Ana.

Funeral arrangements for both men are pending.
