Simi Valley Boys, Bell-Jeff Girls Win Invitational
The Simi Valley High boys track team and the Bell-Jeff girls team won the team competition Saturday at the 6th Greater San Fernando Valley Rotary invitational at Birmingham High.
Simi Valley won seven of 14 events, while Bell-Jeff’s girls won five of 11 events. The meet drew 693 athletes from 29 area schools.
Mike Carnes, a junior from Simi Valley, set a meet record in the long jump. His effort of 22-10 1/2 bettered the previous mark of 21-10 by more than one foot.
The Simi boys also won the 400-meter relay in 42.26 and the 1600-meter relay in 3:26.0.
