AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Rock radio programmers may have some doubts about the new Bob Seger single, but that doesn’t mean they’ve thrown the record out the window. In fact, the flip side of the new Seger single is getting a lot of air play around town. It’s a live version of John Fogerty’s “Fortunate Son,†recorded at a 1983 Seger tour stop in Detroit’s Cobo Arena. . . . How’s this for an odd couple--film composer Bill Conti (“Rockyâ€) co-wrote one of the songs from the new Ted Nugent album, “Little Miss Dangerous.†The pair also teamed up for the score of the recent film “Nomads.†. . . Paging all Trekkies: When “Star Trek IV†hits the theaters this Christmas, watch for ex-Go-Go Jane Wiedlin, who has a small part as a science officer stationed on the Enterprise. . . . Allee Willis, who teamed up with Thomas Dolby to co-write the songs from “Howard the Duck,†the new George Lucas-produced film due out this summer from Universal, is branching out these days. The veteran songwriter is not only writing songs for the upcoming remake of “Journey to the Center of the Earth,†but she’s also created and designed the space car that will be used to take the film’s voyagers to the Earth’s core. . . . The Fibonaccis, who recently headlined the “Night Club Adriatic†theme-show at Raji’s, have completed work on a score for the horror film “Terror Vision,†due out in April. In addition to the title theme, the sound track (available soon on Enigma Records) will feature such ghoulish fare as “Advice to a Mutant,†“The Friends of Crime†and “Sack of Suit Suite.†. . . And “The Cutting Edge†(which airs on MTV at 7:30 p.m.) returns tonight with a special New Orleans Mardi Gras edition, featuring performance footage of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Alex Chilton (who plays such old Box Tops hits as “The Letter†and “Neon Rainbow†at Oddfellows cemetery) and several local Cajun groups.
