Thomas M. Self, Veteran Journalist and Chapman College Aide, Dies
Veteran journalist Thomas M. Self, Business Week’s Los Angeles bureau manager for 27 years, died of cancer Friday at San Clemente General Hospital. He was 63.
Self, a pioneering business journalist in California, was Business Week’s first Los Angeles bureau manager. He left the magazine in 1976 to co-found the Executive, an Orange County business monthly.
He was Chapman College’s press officer for two years and editor of the school’s quarterly magazine. A graduate of Stanford University, Self was editor of the Stanford Daily and a lifetime member of Sigma Delta Chi, the professional journalism society.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Jane, and five grown children. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapman College Chapel on Grand Avenue in Orange.
