Transit Store Will Stock Commuting Information
Got a question about how to use the buses in San Diego County? How about those trolleys?
Beginning in early April, anyone who wants to know more about public transportation in San Diego County can direct questions to the new Transit Store downtown, said Metropolitan Transit Development Board Chairman James R. Mills.
“The Transit Store will combine a variety of services into one centralized, convenient location,†he said.
The store is a joint effort of the transit development board and the San Diego Transit Corp., he said. Judy Leitner, a spokeswoman for the board, estimated the total cost of getting started at $193,000.
Transit information such as maps and timetables, along with Commuter Computer car-pooling match forms, will be available at the store. Passes, tickets, tokens and souvenirs also will be available there, she said. In addition, the store will serve as a lost and found site.
“This outlet is dedicated only to monthly transportation,†and it offers much more than any of the nearly 100 other outlets throughout the county, she said.
The store will be on the first floor of the Granger Building, at 5th Avenue and Broadway. Its location will encourage more people to use public transportation just by “putting it on their minds,†she said.
Further, the store is near stops for the trolley and most major bus routes. “You can catch anything one block from that corner,†she said.
