Pernell Whitaker, who won six of his seven previous fights by knockout, injured his powerful left hand in the fourth round but still had enough to score a 10-round unanimous victory over John Montes in a lightweight bout at Hampton, Va..
Whitaker, who won a gold medal in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, moved to 8-0, going 10 rounds for the first time. Montes, of Whittier, dropped to 29-4.
