Blakeley Resigns as Football Coach
Sonora High School’s Gordon Blakeley, the only coach at an Orange County public high school in charge of two major sports, announced his resignation Thursday as the school’s football coach.
Blakeley, 32, will remain as the school’s baseball coach. Last fall, he coached the Raiders’ football team to its first CIF Southern Section playoff berth since 1978, finishing 3-2 in the Freeway League.
Sonora was 5-7 in Blakeley’s only season as football coach and advanced to the second round of the Central Conference playoffs. A former minor leaguer in the Detroit Tiger organization, Blakeley said he resigned to spend more time with his family.
The football position is open to applicants both in and outside of the Fullerton Union High School District. All inquiries should be made to the district’s personnel office at 738-3346.
