The U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated that California and Arizona growers will produce 41,000 carloads of the summer orange--juicier than the navels now on the market--down from last year’s 56,200 carloads. (A carload contains 1,000 37.5-pound boxes of fruit.) However, the decline is relatively slight for Valencias, which alternate between large and small crops: In 1984, 33,000 carloads were produced; in 1983, 79,000, and in 1982, 35,000.
