A 13-year-old boy playing with a handgun inside his North Hollywood house shot and killed his 12-year-old friend Saturday night after they began arguing, Los Angeles police said Sunday.
The identities of the boys and the address of the house were not released. The suspect was being held Sunday at Sylmar Juvenile Hall pending a presentation of the case this week to the district attorney’s office.
The older boy’s parents were out of town when the 12-year-old came to visit, Officer Joe Pinuelas said.
The boys were playing with several guns belonging to the owner of the house--presumably the older boy’s parents--and the gunplay erupted into an argument, Pinuelas said. The older boy loaded a handgun and fired once at his friend about 9:20 p.m., the officer said.
Police found the victim after responding to reports of gunshots. The boy, who had been wounded in the upper body, was pronounced dead by paramedics.
