A land mine planted by Tamil separatists blew up a truck carrying villagers to market in northeast Sri Lanka, killing at least 36 people and wounding 20, officials said. Security Minister Lalith Athulathmudali said that women and children were among those killed in the blast at Serunuwara. The attack was the worst on Sinhalese civilians since last May, when a raid on Anuradhapura killed 100.
