Maywood : No Challengers, No Vote

The City Council last week canceled the city’s April 8 election and appointed the incumbents to four-year terms.
Incumbent council members Rose Marie Busciglio and Thomas Engle, City Treasurer Ruth Hogrefe and City Clerk Leonard Locher were appointed by the council because no challengers had filed nomination papers for the positions by the Jan. 30 deadline, Locher said. The council had to meet before the 50th day before the election to either appoint the incumbents or make a decision to hold the election.
The appointments are “simpler than holding an election, “ Locher said. The move will save the city about $4,000.
