Pleasure at Bisbee

As a native Arizonan I have always been interested in articles on historic places in that state. You can perhaps imagine my pleasure, then, at reading Jerry Hulse’s story on Bisbee (Jan. 5), as it virtually leaped out at me from the colorful pages. On a visit there two years ago my wife and I enjoyed donning the hard hats, raincoats and battery-operated lamps for the cool trip into the abandoned mine, as shown in the upper picture. On an earlier visit, because of Bisbee’s infrequent snowstorms, we took a picture from about the same spot on U.S. 80 as your second picture at the bottom of the page. While interesting because of the snow, it was hardly as cheerful-looking as yours.
I was born there in 1902, the same year the Copper Queen Hotel was built. It and I both seem to still be in pretty good shape, considering our age.
I thank Jerry for his fine article, and wish him the best of travels in 1986.
