The Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team lost to Cal State Long Beach, 15-12, 15-10, 15-8, in a California Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match Wednesday night.
CSUN relied on passing to defeat Long Beach (1-1) on Friday in the UC Santa Barbara Tournament, but the tables were turned in Northridge’s home opener.
Ali Patazerouni, a 6-7 freshman, guided the Forty Niners’ offense with 16 kills and a serving ace.
The Matadors (1-2) held Long Beach for 95 minutes behind the defense of Scott Juhl and All-American outside hitter Chuck English. English had 10 digs in the match. Juhl had eight. CSUN managed to score on 47 kills, while the Forty Niners made 49. Seniors John Buffington and Eddie DeGrasse combined for 19 kills for CSUN.
