The California Medical Assn. is urging that nonsmokers be given breaks in health care plans because tobacco use increases medical costs. “Recent studies have shown that quitting smoking at any age can have a direct benefit in reducing health care cost,†association president Clarence Avery said in a letter to major providers of health care programs.
