Compensation

For more than 25 years our museum director has received dual compensation from the State of California and from the California Museum Foundation. A similar policy is followed by the L.A. County Museum of Art and the L.A. Museum of Natural History, as well as practically every other museum throughout the nation that is affiliated with a government agency.
Suddenly, some deputy attorney general decides the practice is illegal and all we can do is hope that the Legislature solves the problem. Otherwise, it will not be possible to complete in the marketplace and obtain a competent director solely with the salary authorized by the state.
