The prosecution rested its case in the 4-month-old trial in New York of eight men accused of running an international car-theft ring headed by slain Gambino family godfather Paul Castellano. The defense was expected to present only a few witnesses. Featuring more than 50 witnesses, the trial combined grisly testimony about mob rubouts with details of how stolen autos were altered and shipped for sale in the Middle East.
