Heavy rain ended a 52-day drought in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, while sleet-covered roads and sidewalks shut down 51 school districts in Michigan. Fair weather graced New England and New York after a weekend of heavy snowfall that brought nearly eight inches to northern Maine and six inches to eastern New York. Thick fog blanketed the nation from the Northern Plains to northern Florida.
