TWA Sues FAA Over Collision on Runway

TWA filed suit here Monday against the Federal Aviation Administration for $700,000, blaming air traffic controllers for a runway collision that damaged the wings of two jumbo jets at Los Angeles International Airport.

Attorneys for the airline contend that airport controllers should have known there was not enough room for the two jets to taxi alongside each other. The wing tip of a TWA Boeing 747 preparing for a flight to London clipped the wing of a United Airlines Boeing 767 in November, 1984.

The TWA jet suffered $700,000 in damage, the Los Angeles federal court suit said. The action did not mention damage to the United jet.
