Gulfstream ordered 200 more turbofan engines.
The company, a subsidiary of Chrysler Corp., is acquiring the Tay turbofan engines from Rolls-Royce Ltd. of Britain for the new Gulfstream IV corporate jet. Gulfstream Aerospace’s order of 200 engines in 1983 launched development of the Tay engine and the Gulfstream IV. Gulfstream said its new order is worth more than $275 million. The company added that it has about $1.3 billion in orders for 85 Gulfstream IV jets, which is expected to achieve flight certification this year.
