Women’s College Basketball : Fullerton Is Beaten by UNLV

Center Dona Monroe scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds Thursday night to lead the University of Nevada Las Vegas women’s basketball team to a 77-66 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. win over Cal State Fullerton in Titan Gym.

Misty Thomas added 18 points and Angela Christian 16 for the Rebels, who are 4-1 in conference and 12-6 overall. Fullerton is 4-3 and 6-12.

After trailing early, 6-4, Las Vegas rallied and led the remainder of the game. They Rebels led, 21-7, with 7:36 remaining in the first half and were ahead by as many as 18 in the second half.

Robin Holmes led Fullerton with 19.

In other PCAA action:

San Diego State 57, UC Irvine 52--The Anteaters scored just three points in the first eight minutes of the second half in losing to the Aztecs at Irvine.

San Diego State is 3-1 in conference and 10-8 overall. Irvine, which committed 27 turnovers, is 3-3 and 11-8.

Shelda Arceneaux led the Aztecs with 15 points and 11 rebounds, with all the rebounds coming in the second half. Teammates Jessica Haynes and Lisa Stevens each scored 12 points, and Haynes had 12 rebounds.

Irvine’s Valerie Dean had 18 points to lead all scorers, and center Natalie Crawford added 12 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocked shots and 4 steals. In nonconference action:

Chapman 66, Pepperdine 60--The Panthers out-rebounded the Waves, 46-26, and went on to an easy win at Chapman. Chapman improved its record to 13-7. Pepperdine is 3-16.

Maureen Formico scored 27 points and had 12 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Valerie Hartsfield added 25 points and 10 rebounds.
