China Bans Naming of Places After Officials

PEKING — Naming places after Chinese government officials has been forbidden under new state regulations announced Thursday by the official New China News Agency.
The regulations, in force since Jan. 23, apparently are aimed at preventing the rise of personality cults such as the one that grew up around the late Chairman Mao Tse-tung.
