NBC Drops Cable News Plan

NEW YORK — NBC announced today it has dropped plans for its own 24-hour cable news service because of limited subscriber support. NBC spokesman Bill McAndrew said the network had not met its minimum of 13.5 million subscribers by its self-imposed Jan. 31 deadline. He said NBC had commitments from cable systems totaling significantly more than 2 million viewers, but it was not enough.
