Eastern Airlines’ pilots moved toward a strike.

The pilots’ union at the financially troubled carrier took a step toward a possible strike, requesting its 4,300 members to authorize a walkout if necessary following a 30-day cooling-off period. The end of negotiations between the airline and the Air Line Pilots Assn. triggered a cooling-off period that will end three days before the deadline for labor concessions demanded by creditors.
